i LOVE it here!!!! I was picked up today and taken to my flat.. it's a decent size.. three bedrooms, four bathrooms. I am sharing a room with a women named Rebecca she lives in San Francisco super nice. Two other volunteers are here right now as well and two more tomorrow. Kelly is from Minnesota and Grace is from Virginia. Grace is 18 years old and the most fearless individual ever! She just graduated high school and she decided to take a gap yr.. She spent the last three months in Tanzania with CCS (so cool to be able to reminisce with her from my trip) now she is in Delhi for 3 months with CCS and then she is headed to Thailand for 2 months with CCS... holy cow right?!?!? Needless to say I am super jealous :)
I went to homebase today and met the staff.. Jaggi and Bella are super sweet and extremely welcoming.. lunch was fantastically delicious and super colorful, and of course SPICY! After that I unpacked at the flat and took a shower little less interesting than yesterdays encounter.. haha
Lalit one of the in country staff members took us shopping for our Authentic Indian dress! Boy oh Boy I was a little girl in a candy store! haha I felt so badly for him... waiting on 3 women shopping!! Needless to say we took forever, tried on numerous outfits, and then of course went back to our original choices! I am officially a "Indian" dressed women! I chose two shirts, one pair of crazy pants, a scarf, and a pair of shoes that I know many of you will be jealous of!! I got back, put on all my clothes, and took a picture!
I purchased one less fancy and one more fancy-- the fancy one was obviously a little more expensive but I have to look good when I go visit Mother Teresa's tomb! What a statement right... I could go in rags and she would accept me! A few of the girls want to go to Calcutta as well so I feel a little more at ease to travel.
We plan on traveling to the Taj Mahal next weekend and then Calcutta the following weekend-- I will definitely keep everyone updated on those adventures!
Speaking of adventures driving alone is an insane adventure here... today Rebecca and Kelly were trying to cross the street and it was crazy busy with motorcyclists, cars, trucks, bikes, and these three wheeled crazy contraptions which I absolutely plan on going in-- well to make a long story short for Fred ;) they ran a car swerved and hit a motorcyclist and the guy went flying! YIKES!
I am still settling in but things are going very well, I feel at ease, and very comfortable.. tomorrow we will learn about our placements, have a hindi class, and bum about and then Monday it's off to work- that's when the real experience will begin... so to be continued
thanks for following everyone-- yes I am being safe (to an extent) :)
Ahhh! I am so excited for you!!! POST SOME PICTURES! I can't wait a whole month to see you dressed in Indian tresses!
